To achieve stable and efficient dust removal, a Wet Electrostatic Precipitator must be designed, operated, and maintained as a complete system. Key factors include flue gas conditions, gas distribution, electrical performance, flushing control, and corrosion protection.

Optimize Flue Gas Conditions
WESP performance depends on stable inlet conditions. Gas temperature, moisture content, dust concentration, and acid mist level should be controlled within the designed range. Installing the WESP downstream of desulfurization, condensation, or particulate removal systems helps reduce inlet load and improves collection stability.
Ensure Uniform Gas Distribution
Uneven gas flow can cause local overload and reduce collection efficiency. Proper inlet duct design, flow straighteners, baffles, and perforated plates help distribute flue gas evenly across the electrode field. Uniform velocity also reduces pressure drop fluctuation and electrode erosion.
Maintain Stable High-Voltage Performance
The high-voltage power supply and electrode system should provide stable corona discharge. Regular inspection of discharge electrodes, insulators, and power supply units helps prevent voltage drop, arcing, or insulation failure. Clean and dry insulator boxes are essential for reliable operation in wet environments.
Control Flushing Properly
Flushing removes collected dust, mist, and deposits from the collecting electrodes. Spray frequency, water pressure, nozzle arrangement, and water quality should be optimized. Insufficient flushing may cause buildup, while excessive flushing can increase water consumption and affect electrical stability. A stable water film is usually more effective than irregular high-volume washing.
Prevent Corrosion and Blockage
Flue gas in WESP applications is often wet and corrosive. Material selection for the shell, electrodes, nozzles, and drainage system should match the gas composition. Regular checks of drainage lines, sumps, and mist eliminators help avoid blockage, scaling, and secondary carryover.
Monitor and Adjust Continuously
Outlet particulate concentration, voltage, current, pressure drop, and flushing performance should be monitored regularly. Adjusting operating parameters according to actual conditions helps maintain high efficiency and long-term reliability.
